LEGO SERIOUS PLAY METHOD FOR BUSINESS AND ORGANIZATIONS

ENQUIRE

What’s Lego Serious Play?

A method to allow participants to use Lego bricks to solve problems, explore ideas and achieve goals

A process whereby participants follow key steps to think, build, tell a story, reflect and develop a common understanding of a particular problem

A communication tool that activates 3 types of languages: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Models help us express ourselves, listen to others and remember better.

Used by top companies around the world

IKEA, Virgin Atlantic, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft, Commonwealth, Bank of Australia, Mozilla, Bankwest, Hitachi Electronics Services or Tupperware are just some of the top companies that have used LEGO Serious Play methodologies with their staff.

How can Lego Serious Play help companies and teams?

  • Understand and solve problems from multiple perspectives
  • Improve communication and collaboration between teams, unearthing invisible barriers and ways to overcome them
  • Build a shared vision of a project or a team, identifying key steps to make it a reality
  • Give everyone a voice to find better and more diverse ideas

A typical workshop

Duration: 3-4 hours

Participants: 6 to 18 is ideal, but it can be scaled up if neededWhat happens?

    • Participants get introduced to the method of using Lego bricks differently, through technical skills, metaphors and storytelling
    • Once “retrained”, each participant builds an individual model based on the challenge set up by the facilitator
    • Everyone builds. Everyone shares.
    • Together, they build a shared model that incorporates parts of their individual models to created a shared vision of the problem, strategy, solution, etc
    • They reflect together on the outcomes and document it to take action

Allianz Case Study

I delivered a series of workshops at Allianz Spain for 25 people in the Marketing, Branding, Customer Experience and Data teams.

Challenge

I guided them through different challenges to build individual and shared models that helped them achieve the following objectives:

  • Define clear roles and responsibilities for the execution of the strategy.
  • Identify key skills and strengths of each team member to understand each other roles and find ways to connect people from different departments.
  • Improve collaboration and communication between departments (CX, Data, Brand, Marketing and Sponsorship)

Results

During the build activities, individuals revealed more of their identity to their colleagues and discovered what each others’ strengths and challenges were. Ultimately, the workshops set a solid foundation for a shared understanding of the opportunities and barriers the team were facing in the implementation of their new business strategy.

Google Case Study

As a facilitator for the Google Digital Academy, I run digital marketing transformation labs and workshops for large brands all around Europe.

I used Lego Serious Play with companies such as San Miguel in Google Madrid to build a vision of their digital transformation journey and the steps needed to make it a reality.

GBSB Case Study

I run a leadership workshop with MBA students from all over the world using the Lego Serious Play method.

Through different “build challenges”, students were encouraged to identify their own leadership skills and a roadmap on how to further develop them in their own organizations.

What people say…

“The Lego Serious Play workshop run by Barrio Digital helped us identify the strengths and weaknesses of our current strategy.
The workshop was creative, engaging and fun and this worked really well to make us think what goals we have, how we want to achieve them and why. This method helped us unearth some unspoken preconceptions that we had never questioned.
As this is a session based on play, it made it easier for the most tactical individuals to not be afraid of contributing to the definition of the strategy. Through the exercises, we moved from individual models to a shared vision which made it genuinely collaborative.”

Anna Lladó, Head of Marketing (Allianz España)
